Waxing Day

I arrange to use the Company heated garage to Wax the Spit and work on some other projects. Here is a chronology of the postings I made on the net as I worked.

I replaced the taillight lens and inner gasket with the kit I bought a few months ago. There were open cracks in the lens and the inner gasket looked like it had seen better days. It also appears the inner gasket on the water catcher was mounted incorrectly with the drain slots on top versus the bottom. At least they look like drain slots. We'll see how they work with the new gasket and lens.

I did have one incident. I broke one of the amber lens mounting holes and needed to use one of the old one. The new screws provided in the kit were not slotted as the old screws (see picture). The were much harder to screw in. I ended up after the break using a few of the old slotted ones and they seem much better. It was probably my fault, but maybe VB will be nice and replace it for me.

I spent most of the day waxing the car. I used a new wax by 3M "Perfect-it" Show Car Wax. I like the 3M products I use on my boat so... It's meant for new or like new finishes. It went on easy and came off easy. It seemed gentle on the clearcoat and it does look give it a "wet look". Although, the paint looked great before it now looks a little wetter and its protected. Waxed the inner bonnet and every painted area I could reach. (feels great to have her protected). This is, I think the first wax applied since it was painted. It may be a while until I find out how well the wax holds up. Snow (salt) coming tonight, so she's back home in the garage.

Here are the results.
